👋 Hi there!
This is the 18th edition of the ‘Weekly Experiment Club’. If you participated in last weeks experiment, take a moment to reflect.
Who is behind the ‘Weekly Experiment Club?’
We are Albert and Laurin, two friends from the Netherlands and Austria. Each week the two of us challenge each other to one actionable experiment that we take from the best self-improvement books.
Why? Because just reading more books doesn’t get you anywhere. The only way you can improve is by taking actions and measuring how those actions impact your life. That is why we started these experiments and invite you to join us each week. Don’t overthink it, just do one experiment with us a week and stick to the things that work for you.
Okay, let’s get to it! 🚀
👉 Today’s topic: Drink more water
On a typical day, I empty a 500mL bottle of water about three times. This is so habitual that I do not have to think about it - as long as I have my water bottle next to me. When I do not have my water bottle next to me, I drink much less water, and I notice that those days I generally have less energy and feel less active.
You probably know that drinking water is good for your health and hydration levels. But you may never have consciously reflected on how your daily water intake impacts how you feel throughout the day. That is why in this weeks experiment, we challenge you to drink more water than usual and reflect on how it makes you feel.
(Of course, there are many more benefits to drinking water. See e.g. Harvard Health and the CDC.)
🧪 This weeks experiment
Hypothesis: Drinking more water than usual affects how energetic and active you feel throughout the day.
🤌🏻 But, but, how do I best do it?
Increase your daily intake of water such that you drink 1.5 - 2 litres of water every day.
You can either have a bottle of water next to you at all times (my preference) and keep track of how often you refilled it, or you can drink a big glass of water (400-500ml) at every meal.
To make sure you reflect consciously on the effects of your increased water intake, you could write down at the end of the day how much water you drank and how energetic and active you felt throughout the day.
At the end of the week, reflect on how increasing your daily water intake affected how energetic and active you felt throughout the day.
Okay enough talk.
Let’s be real. Doing experiments like this is a lot easier if you do it together with a friend. So why not forward the newsletter and take on a challenge with a friend? Many of our readers create Whatsapp or Telegram groups and have a daily check-in to make sure they complete the challenge.
Have a great week and happy experimenting!
